    We found the article by Hamaguchi and colleagues (1) to be valuable and insightful. The authors provided new evidence that characterized the natural history of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), defined the distribution of risk factors in other populations, and confirmed a strong association between the metabolic syndrome and NAFLD.
