Tornos and colleagues [1] found three cases of Streptococcus bovis endocarditis but appeared not to search for bowel carcinoma, the presumed cause of death in one patient a year after the endocarditis was cured. The importance of differentiating group D streptococci by species and of performing stool cultures for S. bovis in this clinical setting cannot be overemphasized.
