LITERATURE OF MEDICINE

Reviews, Notes, and Listings: Hans Popper: A Tribute

1 February 1993 | Volume 118 Issue 3 | Page 238

Hans Popper: A Tribute

Paul D. Berk, Fenton Schaffner, and Rudi Schmid; eds. 179 pages. New York: Raven Press; 1991. $50.00.

These 49 essays by students, collaborators, and colleagues of the "father of the modern discipline of hepatology" give us a detailed picture of a vigorous man, who was incredibly fruitful in his own research and in research to which he stimulated others. The book is also, in effect, a vivid history of the discipline. A valuable document for the history of American and European internal medicine in our century.
